The City Circle
Events > This Week's Event
The City Circle organises weekly gatherings which act as forums for intellectual discourse, spiritual nourishment, community activity and social networking. It also holds fundraising dinners and conferences.

The diverse range of subjects covered in the weekly events and the wide spectrum of Muslim and non-Muslim opinion within it has established a respectable platform for honest critical debate which has allowed the City Circle to move sections of the community towards an increasingly proud, confident and positive definition of their identity as young British Muslim citizens in the UK.

Weekly events are held every Friday evening from 6:45pm, except for public or Muslim holidays, or during the month of Ramadan.
Subject: OUT OF THE TUNNEL - THE INSPIRATIONAL STORY OF A 7/7 SURVIVOR
Speaker: Rachel North (King's Cross United), Mr Mohammed Abdus-Samee (Queen Elizabeth Hospital)
Venue: Abrar House, 45 Crawford Place, London W1H 4LP (nearest tube: Edgware Road or Marble Arch)
Date: 6.45 - 8.45pm, Friday 11th July 2008
In 2002, Rachel North was brutally attacked in her own home in London by an intruder and left for dead, but miraculously survived the horrific assault, only to battle for years afterwards with severe traumatic shock.

On 7th July 2005, Rachel was commuting to work on the Piccadilly Line when Germaine Lindsay detonated his bomb in her carriage between King's Cross and Russell Square stations.

Informed by her past experience of trauma, Rachel was able to recover eventually from the horror of that day and used her past experience to help her fellow survivors. She set up a support group, King's Cross United, and found therapy in writing about her thoughts and feelings in the weeks that followed. "Out of the Tunnel" is the book that resulted, an emotional and extraordinary story of determination and courage.

In the week of the third anniversary of the 7/7 London bombings, join us to hear Rachel's utterly-inspirational story first-hand! Copies of "Out of the Tunnel" will be available for sale and signing by the author.

We also hope to be joined by Mr Mohammed Abdus-Samee, Specialist Registrar at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Woolwich. On 7/7, Mr Abdus-Samee was working at St. Thomas' Hospital in central London and helped to treat dozens of 7/7 victims for a whole week. A devout Muslim, Mr Abdus-Samee is certain that the 7/7 bombers perverted his religion in their attempt to justify mass-murder.
