Shahedah Vawda was born in South Africa and raised during the apartheid years. She was active in the Student Movements on Campus and headed the Muslim Students Assocaition which worked with the ANC and other NGO's.

Qualifying an an occupational therapist in 1994 she worked locally before travelling and working abroad, moving to England in 1997.She was an active member of the Stop the War Coalition during 2001/2002 and worked with other muslims to articulate a 'Muslim' voice within the movement.

Professionally she specialized in Neurology and has worked in the heart of East London as a Community Therapist. Thereafter she moved into higher education and taught for 5 years at London South Bank University.
At present she is busy being a mum to her 2 year old son.
