Event details:
Ramadan, the month of revelation, brings us closer to Allah and each other every year. We try hard to benefit  through a greater focus on prayer, Quran, generosity and community. Ahead of this Ramadan, City Circle present ‘Fasting not Feasting’, a campaign by IMASE to promote the spirit and potential of Ramadan. We will address three kinds of body which are transformed by the month of fasting; the spiritual, physical and communal bodies.

The way we open our fast is an essential part of the ibadah. Often, the thrill of being able to finally eat can result in 24 hours of food intake being guzzled within a matter of hours.  Sometimes we simply lose control of ourselves in the moment, other times we plan extravagant iftari parties that distract our focus from seeing Allah’s pleasure.
O CHILDREN of Adam! Beautify yourselves for every act of worship, and eat and drink [freely], but do not waste: verily, He does not love the wasteful! (7:31)
“Eat of the things which Allah hath provided for you, Lawful and good; but fear Allah, in whom ye believe.” (5:88)
IMASE created ‘Fasting not Feasting’ as a community based initiative to battle against the old fashioned vice of gluttony and the newer phenomenon of the Consumerisation of Islam. We have a social religion and it is better to address issues collectively. Therefore, we are developing practical resources for Muslim families and organisations interested in improving our Ramadhan performance. Resources include children’s activities to quick healthy meal recipes, from youtube manifestos to khutba content and decision-making aids for masjid service committees.
This Friday evening, we will launch the campaign with two short talks, a discussion and a walk-through of the resources we have prepared. The team are also keen to gain feedback and develop collaborations.

Your current web browser must be updated to version 7 of Internet Explorer (IE7) to take advantage of all of template's capabilities.

Why should I upgrade to Internet Explorer 7? Microsoft has redesigned Internet Explorer from the ground up, with better security, new capabilities, and a whole new interface. Many changes resulted from the feedback of millions of users who tested prerelease versions of the new browser. The most compelling reason to upgrade is the improved security. The Internet of today is not the Internet of five years ago. There are dangers that simply didn't exist back in 2001, when Internet Explorer 6 was released to the world. Internet Explorer 7 makes surfing the web fundamentally safer by offering greater protection against viruses, spyware, and other online risks.
