Title: FILM SHOWING: THE ELDER BROTHER'S WARNING - THE KOGI PEOPLE'S MESSAGE TO THE WORLD
Speakers: Alan Ereira, The Tairona Trust
Event Details:
The Kogi people of South America are an ancient people whose territory in Colombia stretches from the peaks of the Sierra Nevada mountains down to the sea.
Being one of the very few tribes to have survived the genocides by the Spanish conquistadors, they have maintained their centuries-old tradition of living to a high degree in spiritual harmony with nature and the ecological balance of their diverse territory.
Alan Ereira's film, commissioned by the BBC and shown in the 1980's, is a powerful and moving documentary that transports the viewer into an ancient, almost-mediaeval village-based way of life in harmony with nature and with a deep sense of the sacred, except that it still exists in the 21st century.
Find out how and why the Kogi believe that modern man is destroying the earth and why their warning is so urgent. Join us also for a chat and discussion with the film's producer who is also Director of the Tairona Trust, a charity dedicated to helping the Kogi preserve their way of life against the demands of modern capitalism.
Alan Ereira is an experienced film-producer and documentary-maker. One of his works is a 1990's series on Saladin and the Crusades, recently shown again on BBC television as part of its "Mediaeval Season."
