Religion and Reason

Title: Religion and Reason: Are the Two Concepts Incompatible?
Speaker
Dr Hammad Akbar

Date: 3rd December 2010 at 18:45
Venue: Abrar House, 45 Crawford Place, W1H 4LP

Event details
Religion and reasoning are largely understood as bi-polar constructs.  The presentation will focus on their underlying concepts, and show how these constructs diverged over the years and how these might converge in the future.  Dr Akbar will consider the origin of the religion-reasoning split, how this split magnified over the years, and the perspective of scholars (including Mohammed Iqbal) who believe that these are not incompatible.  He will also identify the relevant similarities and differences underlying the two constructs, and perhaps a way forward on how these could be reconciled.
