Title: The Crisis of Civilization - Film Screening
Date: 13th January 2012 at 18:45
Venue: Abrar House, 45 Crawford Place, W1H 4LP
Event details:
The Crisis of Civilization is a documentary which - weaving together archival film footage and animations - investigates how global crises like ecological disaster, financial meltdown, dwindling oil reserves, terrorism and food shortages are converging symptoms of a single, failed global system.
It suggests that a failure to understand the systemic context of these crises has generated a tendency to deal only with their symptoms and not their root structural causes; This has in turn led to the proliferation of war, terror, and state-terror, including encroachment on civil liberties, while accelerating global crises rather than solving them.
We hope to be joined by the film-maker Dean Puckett, animator Lucca Benney and international security analyst Dr. Nafeez Mosaddeq Ahmed – author of 'A User’s Guide to the Crisis of Civilization: And How to Save It' on which the film is based. The screening will be followed by a Q&A session, and copies of Dr. Ahmed's book will be available to purchase on the night.
Free entrance. All welcome.
