Title JOURNEY TO THE SUMMIT - THE TALE OF AN EVEREST CONQUEROR

Date: 26 Jul 2008
Title: JOURNEY TO THE SUMMIT - THE TALE OF AN EVEREST CONQUEROR
Speakers: Omar Samra

Event Details:

Mountains, referred to as Signs of God in the Koran, inspire and evoke powerful emotions and experiences, including spiritual ones. Prophets Noah, Moses, Jesus and Muhammad had poignant experiences and revelations on the summits of Judi, Mount Sinai, the Mount of Olives and the Mountain of Light, respectively.

Poets and philosophers such as Nietzsche have also drawn much inspiration from climbing mountains.

In May 1953, Sir Edmund Hillary and Sherpa Tenzing Norgay reached the summit of 8,850m Mount Everest after countless years of often close yet unsuccessful attempts. Over 50 years on, the mountain still lives on in people's minds as one of the most demanding
of human conquests.

In 2007, Egyptian Omar Samra took on that same challenge in a difficult 9.5-week pursuit that tested his every reserve, and by doing so, completed one of his life-long dreams. The Egyptian flag was raised for the first time on the Earth's 3rd pole at precisely 9:49am on the 17th of May of 2007.

Join Omar at his presentation as he recounts the Everest tale and demonstrates why continuing to challenge ourselves beyond what we thought were our personal boundaries is one of the most powerful tools for leading a successful and fulfilling life.
