Montessori - Olive Arabic School
The Olive Arabic School was set up in Harrow building upon the success of running a similar school in Wembley Park, since October 2003, with the aim of providing children with an integrated and inter-active approach to the study of the Qur'an and the Arabic language - a counter to the rote learning offered by 'traditional' madrassahs. It started as a local parents initiative which aimed to address the immediate needs of the next generation of Muslims; our children. Many of the pupils have joined with little or no knowledge of the Qur'an and are taught from the beginning with 1 teacher who will see them through to the completion of the Qur'an, God Willing.

The school aims to:

  • provide a wholesome and disciplined environment in which children can excel in their learning.

  • ensure pupils master the basics of correct recitation of the Qur'an.
  • ensure the essential fiqh of prayer, wudu and the remaining five pillars are learnt.

  • keep class sizes to a minimum, ensuring a maximum class size of not more than 8.

  • provide qualified teachers with relevant experience.

  • keep abreast of modern teaching methods and employ a variety of teaching methods best suited to the needs of the pupil.

  • provide a safe and loving environment offering opportunities for developing a positive social circle within the group.

  • maintain regular contact and feedback between parents and school through regular parents evenings, homework diaries and questionnaires.

  • teach Islam in a fun manner making it attractive to the children and to assist them in applying their Islam to their local British culture without conflict and in a positive holistic manner.

Teachers

All the above teachers are fully qualified with relevant teaching experience in Tajweed and Hifz of the Qur'an. Many of the teachers are native Arab speakers from the Muslim world and non-native speakers of Arabic have studied the language to an appropriate level. All references are diligently checked and teachers are CRB checked before they teach in the school.

Other Activities

We have run Islamic Art workshops and also offered these to mainstream schools which proved very popular.
